The Standish Wine Company was created in 1999 when Dan Standish sourced a small parcel of old vine Shiraz from his parents’ vineyard in the heart of the Barossa Valley. The 96 year old vines are planted on the typical sand over clay soil profile which is characteristic of Vine Vale, the sub-region of the Barossa. With Dan's enormous passion for the wines of the Rhône Valley in the south of France, it was a natural evolution that the wines made would reflect their intrinsic style. As such, the second wine in the assemblage, The Relic, is a Shiraz and Viognier co-fermented wine, as made in Côte Rôtie.
The wines from the Standish Wine Company are only produced in tiny quantities and get snapped up as soon as they reach our shores; however some stockists might have a bottle or two of the most recent vintages.
These are the wines, vintages and approximate retail prices from The Standish Wine Company we currently have available in the UK:

The Relic 2006, Shiraz/Viognier * Only very limited quantities of these older vintages are available so please ring to check. *93/100 RP *98 Pts Wine Enthusiast "This prodigious wine showcases Barossa's ability to deliver big, mouthfilling flavors without any suggestion of heat or heaviness. Scents of stone fruit, pepper and red currants mark the nose, while the flavors take on a darker cast, heading toward black cherries and black olives. The tannins are supremely silky, but this graceful, feminine beauty should drink well through at least 2020. CELLAR SELECTION. | Bottle | £75.00 | Find Stockists |

The Standish 2005, Shiraz * Only very limited quantities of these older vintages are available so please ring to check. *93/100 RP *96 Pts Wine Enthusiast "If Standish's Relic is the feminine side of Shiraz, this is in a more masculine vein, with slightly coarser tannins and more weight, but still possessing great intensity without any heaviness. Cassis, blueberry and black olive flavors are tinged with hints of asphalt and espresso, leading into a warm, lingering finish. Drink now-2025. CELLAR SELECTION. | Bottle | £75.00 | Find Stockists |

The Relic 2007, Shiraz/Viognier *94+/100 RP: The 2007 Shiraz-Viognier (4%) The Relic was sourced from the same parcel. Wildfermented, it offers up a sexy bouquet of floral notes, bacon, smoked meat, incense, and blueberry. Dense, sweet and layered on the palate, it will offer much pleasure over the next 8-10 years. It does not get much better than this from the 2007 vintage. | Bottle | £75.00 | Find Stockists |

The Standish 2006, Shiraz *95/100 RP: The 2006 Shiraz was sourced from a single parcel of 98 year old vines yielding a minuscule 0.5 tons of fruit per acre. It was aged for 36 months in seasoned French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up a superb, room-filling bouquet of cigar box, baking spices, smoked meat, lavender, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. On the palate this harmonious, velvety-textured effort is voluptuous, full-flavored, succulent, and exceptionally long. It has enough structure to evolve for 4-6 years but will be hard to resist early on. Its prime drinking window will extend from 2014 to 2026. | Bottle | £75.00 | Find Stockists |

Borne Bollene 2007, Shiraz *93/100 RP: The 2007 Shiraz Borne Bollene comes from a single Eden Valley vineyard planted in 1976. The wine was aged for 24 months in new Dominique Laurent Burgundy barrels. Purple/black in color, it delivers a kinky, smoky, wild blueberry and blackberry-scented perfume. It has plenty of savory fruit as well as a good dose of tannin. It should evolve harmoniously over the next 4-5 years but lacks the depth and concentration of a great year. | Bottle | £75.00 | Find Stockists |

Andelmonde 2007, Shiraz *92/100 RP: The 2007 Shiraz Andelmonde is another single vineyard from the Greenock sub region of Barossa. Purple-colored with legs that ooze down the glass, it is a dense, concentrated, serious effort that lacks the generosity of vintages like 2004. Nevertheless, it is a strong effort, albeit at a hefty price. 96/100, Jamie Goode "Standish Andelmonde Shiraz 2007 Barossa A single-vineyard Shiraz (Greenock) from Dan Standish, sealed with natural cork, 13.5% alcohol, with ‘minimal sulphur added’ according to the back label. Intensely coloured, with a nose that is ripe and sweet but has well defined blackberry, plum and dark cherry fruit with some spice and subtle earthy notes. The palate is hugely concentrated with dense, dark, ripe fruit beautifully framed by the fresh acidity and spicy, earthy savouriness. It’s beautifully judged with firm structure underpinning the sweet fruit, and the oak playing a supporting role. There’s no hint of over-ripeness, and this is a powerful but balanced wine. One of the best examples of Barossa Shiraz I’ve ever tried." | Bottle | £75.00 | Find Stockists |
